Privacy policy for StackScan Website Info
Last updated 6 October 2026
StackScan Website Info is a browser extension made by StackScan (stackscan.com). It shows the technologies, popularity, hosting, email setup and company details of the website in your current tab. This page explains what it collects and why. Questions go to [email protected].
What the extension can see
Only the address of the tab you are on, and only when you click the StackScan icon. The click places the StackScan panel on that page, docked to the right edge; the extension does not read the page's content, see your other tabs, or read your browsing history. It sends one thing to our service: the domain name of that tab, such as example.com, never the full address or anything on the page.
What we collect and why
- Your email address. You sign in by confirming a link we email you; there is no password. The address keeps use fair: each email gets up to 300 lookups a day and 6,000 a month.
- The domains you look up. We do not keep a history of the sites you look up. To avoid charging you twice for reopening the same site, we remember that your account looked up a domain for 10 minutes, then it is deleted automatically. Our server logs record that a lookup was made but mask which site.
- Daily counts. For each account and day: the number of lookups, live DNS checks and requests refused by a limit. We use these to enforce the limits and to spot abuse.
- Sign-in details. When you sign in we record the browser name and version, the IP address of the request, and when you confirmed. The extension keeps a sign-in token; we store only a hashed copy. A sign-in lasts up to 180 days.
- Problem reports. If you use "Report a problem", we keep the site, the kind of problem you chose and anything you write, linked to your email so we can follow up.
- Server logs. Each request to our service is logged with the IP address, time, browser user agent and result, with the site masked.
Shared results
When you ask for a live DNS check or a site's registration dates, the result is saved for that domain, not for you, and other users looking at the same domain see it. Nothing in a saved result identifies who asked for it.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not build a profile of the sites you visit.
- We do not use your data for advertising, credit decisions or anything unrelated to running the extension.
The use of information received through the extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Service providers
- Hetzner Online hosts our servers, in Finland.
- Cloudflare carries traffic to our service and protects it from abuse, including the Turnstile check on the sign-in form.
- Amazon Web Services (Simple Email Service) sends the sign-in emails.
They process data only to provide these services to us.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Link between your account and a domain | 10 minutes |
| Sign-in requests (browser, IP address) | 7 days |
| Server logs | 14 days |
| Signed-out or expired sign-ins | 30 days after they end |
| Email addresses never confirmed | 30 days |
| Daily counts | 13 months |
| Problem reports | 13 months |
| Your email address | Until you ask us to delete it |
Your choices
- Sign out in the extension's Settings. This ends the sign-in for that browser.
- Delete your data by emailing [email protected] from the address you signed in with. We delete the address and everything linked to it within 30 days.
- Remove the extension to delete what it stores in your browser: the sign-in token, your layout setting and results from the last 10 minutes.
Children
The extension is a research tool for adults and is not meant for children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
